Dear Orion Browser Team,
Hello! I am a loyal user of Orion and have actively subscribed to support the development of this product. As a user who uses the browser extensively on a daily basis, I have never wanted to switch to other products due to Orion's smooth experience and privacy protection features. However, I would like to provide feedback and seek clarification on two matters regarding the browser's web translation function and subscription benefits.
- Request for Adding Immersive Translation Function
Currently, Orion's web translation function requires navigating to a new page to complete the translation. This not only disrupts the continuity of reading but also renders the links on the translated page unclickable, significantly impacting usability. What I expect is an immersive translation experience similar to that of Microsoft Edge Browser, rather than a bilingual comparison display. The core needs and advantages of this experience are as follows:
Instant In-place Replacement: When accessing an English webpage, triggering translation via the address bar icon or right-click menu will directly replace the webpage text with Chinese, while fully preserving the original page layout (including the positions of tables, buttons, images, etc.). Functions such as links and interactive controls remain usable, and there is no need to navigate to any third-party page;
Intelligent Scene Adaptation: It supports automatic detection of foreign language pages and pops up a prompt to offer translation. Users can set "Always translate specific languages" to achieve seamless switching. At the same time, the text selection translation function is retained—selecting any text allows right-clicking to bring up an immediate translation, catering to both full-page translation and precise query needs;
Balance Between Privacy and Experience: I understand that the team adheres to the concept of zero data collection. If local translation engines (such as the offline solution of Mozilla Firefox Translations) can be integrated, or if data transmission risks are clearly indicated when providing third-party translation services (such as Bing and Google), it will be possible to meet privacy needs while achieving efficient translation.
It is worth noting that the "Immersive Translate" extension itself also supports the "translation only" mode of in-place original text replacement, and its interaction logic can serve as a reference. I understand that the team is waiting for Apple to open the system translation API to implement native functions. If this cannot be achieved in the short term, could you consider supporting the adaptation of similar extensions first (for example, the Translate Locally extension for the Firefox platform is already usable on the Orion desktop version), or optimize the existing functions with reference to Edge's translation logic to make multilingual browsing smoother?
- Inquiry About RC Version Update Rights After Subscription Expiration
Currently, I have obtained the right to use the Orion RC version through my subscription. I understand that the RC version is more like a preview version for Orion and is an exclusive benefit for subscribed users. According to Orion's license agreement, the relevant usage rights will terminate after the subscription expires. However, I would like to seek further clarification: After the subscription expires, will I still be able to receive update notifications for the RC version? If I can no longer receive updates, will the browser automatically downgrade to the stable version, and will the functions of the already installed RC version be affected?
I have always recognized the team's efforts in polishing the product experience and look forward to the continuous evolution of Orion. Thank you for reading this feedback and for your reply!
