Paused video starts playing again when iOS app is minimised

On iOS orion, if I am watching a YT video, the player continues to play when I minimise the app (EG back to desktop). This is great, and a welcome behaviour.

If I instead pause the video, and then minimise the app, the video will start playing again in audio-only mode (IE I don't see a miniplayer)

This is...infuriating. I haven't found any way to stop this, other than closing the tab (which I don't want to do, I want to return to the video eventually when I am done whatever other task I am working on)

If I paused the video...keep it paused until I press play again.

I tried reproducing this, but had no luck in doing so. Paused videos stay paused, and videos that are playing keep playing as long as Settings → Browsing → Background audio is enabled.

Could you share a video of you reproducing this? The background audio contains some quirks for sure so having clear steps for replicating the issue would be great.

That said, I can reproduce it easily, but I don’t know how to capture sound in iOS screen recording.

(Also…I could not log in to this feedback site in Orion. I had to go back to Safari. What’s that about?)

That was the missing piece! I am able to reproduce the issue now. Curiously the unwanted playback pauses after roughly 10–20 seconds but resumes after 2 seconds again. This repeated multiple times while I was writing this message.

(Also…I could not log in to this feedback site in Orion. I had to go back to Safari. What’s that about?)

What method are you using to sign in? Does the issue persist if you go to Orion settings → Privacy → Manage websites data… → Search for 'orionfeedback' and delete its data by swiping to the left on it? Do not click on the red Remove all data button.
