New window/ new tab functionality in Orion is sluggish compared to Chrome

opening a new window or tab and immediately beginning to type is noticably sluggish in Orion compared to Chrome. the text field takes a second to render and the typed text can take almost a second to load in. in Chrome, a new window renders the address bar immediately and typing is immediate.

even if i wait a second for the address bar to load on a new window in orion, typing isn't totally immediate for some reason. this is with address bar search and fastgpt disabled, which makes the problem even worse.

worse still, if I type too fast and hit enter, it goes to the top hit rather than searching

in general, new tab and new window functionality is very sluggish.

Hey, thanks for the report.
Would you say this behavior is exclusive to macOS Tahoe, or did you notice it on Sequoia as well? Additionally, would it be possible for you to share a video comparing the two browsers in this regard? I tested on my setup but Orion was able to keep up with my speed without any issues, and I couldn't spot any glaring issues regarding speed.

apologies for no Chrome video; for various reasons incognito mode is currently disabled and it was too annoying to try to do it without exposing my browsing history.

i should note that this behavior goes away after restarting the browser, but tends to creep back up after it's been open for 24+ hours without restart. I wasn't using Orion regularly on Sequoia so I can't say whether it happened then or not.

this feels like part of a broader pattern of behavior where orion is really snappy when it first starts up then slowly gets increasingly sluggish if it's open for like 24 hours ish. it's unfortunate.
