Also, I discovered it gets worse: regardless of Grid/Sidebar option, if you had a tab open and trigger a Home icon search, it doesn't open a new tab and instead focuses the current tabs URL bar. It shouldn't do that as it's easy to mistakenly replace a tab and get confused while also making it many more user actions to get to the desired result: a new tab, ready to search, from the Home screen.
