Focus mode + sidebar is buggy

Relates to https://orionfeedback.org/d/11652-better-sidebar-vertical-tabs-behaviour-in-focus-mode as using these two features together has been problematic for a long time. There are a few bugs here but it is hard to untangle them into separate posts without much repetition.

Steps to repro:

Choose Compact mode in settings > Tabs.
Select View > Show Vertical Tabs Sidebar
Select View > Enable Focus Mode (should be renamed Enter Focus Mode to complement "Exit" nomenclature).
Select View > Show Vertical Tabs Sidebar. It won't show.
Select View > Show Sidebar. It shows but is set to Windows not Tabs. Also now the URL bar is bunged:

Use the dropdown menu to select Tabs. Now the sidebar disappears (as per issue linked above).
Select View > Show Vertical Tabs Sidebar. It won't show.
Stay calm. The process above repeats: Select View > Show Sidebar.
Select View > Show Vertical Tabs Sidebar. Sidebar collaspes again.
Select View > Show Sidebar. This time the top area with the dropdown is missing:

Hover mouse around top and the bar shows.
Select Tabs from the dropdown. It finally shows. Note that if you use Select View > Show Vertical Tabs Sidebar menu option here it repeats the loop of hiding the sidebar completely.

Expected behaviour

With View > Enable Focus Mode enabled:

Select View > Show Vertical Tabs Sidebar → Shows the sidebar in Tabs mode.
Select View > Show Sidebar → Shows the sidebar in whatever the last used mode.
The URL bar shouldn't collapse like the screenshot above.
When in focus mode, the top bar hover area of the sidebar should be larger. Curently, the hover zone is about 1/4 height of the top bar region, which makes it feel like its broken in the sidebar given the large gap. This could be fallout from a decision to minimise the topbar hover zone in the main viewport to minimise interference with content (website top menus etc).
Switching sidebar modes should not hide the sidebar.
Once the top bar is showing, it should timeout without any further mouse interaction. At the moment it never goes away and breaks Focus Mode, which is still enabled. Outside of exiting Focus and enabling it again, I haven't been able to make the top bar go away.

Just noticed that switching Saved Windows also [undesirably] hides the sidebar. Basically, the current situation is extremely hostile to Focus Mode + Sidebar Orion usage.

The browser crashes 90% of the time whenever I want to open sidebar in focus mode, please fix that cause I really want to love the browser. (Coming from Arc & Zen, the webkit is so enjoyable, but I just can't fully switch to it due to the focus mode and sidebar experience is far worse than the Arc & Zen browser's.)

I encounter the same issue as @Hilichiu though not so much in Focus Mode, but with collapsed sidebar. After a while of having Orion idling, trying to reopen the sidebar will make it completely unresponsive. Once I left Orion in this state while continuing work and it resulted in a kernel panic.

Same here as @Hilichiu and @maxsteenbergen - I've mapped cmd+S to show/hide the sidebar. Occasionally (way too often, optimistically every 10th show/hide), the entire browser crashes when i try to toggle the sidebar. The show/hide animation is also super choppy for whatever reason. I've resorted to helium for most of my work, since this happens too much and the interruption is pretty jarring 🙁
