Mobile start page sticks around after pressing enter

When searching for something in a new tab on iOS, occasionally the start page will be displayed on top of the already loaded results after pressing enter.

You need to tap in the top right to see the actual web page:

I’ve got tabs set to the tiles mode, otherwise I think I haven’t changed any settings.

Hi ThomasS, thank you for taking the time to report this bug!

This seems annoying and would like to find a good fix for it, and the first step is to be able to reliable reproduce the issue. In order to help me find a fix for the bug, I'd like to ask you a few questions:

Which version of iOS and Orion are you using?
What do you mean when you say "When searching for something in a new tab on iOS"?
If possible, could you record your screen while the bug happens?

Heya!

It seems to happen sporadically, but weirdly it hasn't happened for me in the last few days, so I haven't been able to grab a screen recording. Maybe this was fixed in a recent update that was auto-installed?

Perhaps best to close this for now - apologies for the false alarm!

Oh! Yes I am, must have logged in with a different social account, apologies!

Also just was able to reproduce it again. Latest Orion version, and iOS 18.6.2 (22G100).

This is immediately after opening a new tab:

The last action in the video is me pressing the X at the top, only then the actual page of search results shown, even though I pressed enter a few seconds before.

Hi ThomasS, thanks for that!

I notice that even before the start page is (wrongly) shown, the app is in a weird state: as you type your search, another superimposed text field is visible ("Search or enter website"). And I think thes two bugs must be linked.
However i am not able to reproduce this issue quite reliably.
Have you seen this bug often, do you manage to reproduce this easily?

Unfortunately it’s very sporadic, I’ve not been able to figure out a consistent way to make this happen.

It seems like it might only happen when the app comes out of being in the background for a while (e.g. it happened the first time I opened Orion this morning and opened a new tab, but hasn’t happened in the past hour or two).

Also, if it helps: I think I usually open a new tab by swiping left on the address bar.

Do you have "Show keyboard on new tab" enabled?

Ok, I'll try to look out for this issue if I can find a way to reproduce it.

Can confirm it's definitely related to the 'show keyboard on new tab' option, because I haven't had this issue since disabling that option.
