Steps to reproduce:

  1. On a blank window (no page loaded) the Address field shows search hint centred
  2. When user clicks inside Address field, search hint shifts to far left, where the user's cursor is inserted, awaiting user input
  3. Select New Window or New Private Window (or use kb-shortcuts)
  4. Cursor is automatically inserted in field
  5. Observe Search hint shown in 2 separate locations in the Address Bar (i.e. centred search hint is not hidden before left-aligned instance is shown)

Expected behavior:
Search hint should only be shown on far left of Address Field, where the user's cursor is automatically placed, ready for their input / centred search hint should be hidden immediately upon field focus, before the left-aligned instance is shown.

AND/OR when new window is created the centred instance should be skipped altogether as the cursor is automatically inserted in the Address field.

Image/Video:

transeunt changed the title to Address/Search hint shown twice on new window creation .

UPDATE: the same effect can be seen when opening a link in a new window (e.g. right-click link in a page and select "Open Link in New Window".

In that case one sees the domain instead of search hint, of course.

Also, if the window is not wide enough, the left justified text jumbles overtop of the centered text.
The centered text does not disappear when you start typing the address. The typed text (or auto-suggested text) displays on top of the centered text.
