Zombie tabs after force close

This affects the Orion iOS app, version 1.3.26 (9) (WebKit 8621.3.11.10.3) on iOS 18.6 (22G86). It has been an issue for a few weeks (unclear exactly when it started), but I never saw this behavior before that.

Make changes to tabs, force-close the app, then re-launch, and some of your actions get reverted.

In this video, I close 3/4 open tabs and then after reopening the app, all 4 tabs reappear:

My "Start Orion With" setting is set to "All Tabs from Last Session" and has not been touched in months.

The same behavior occurs when closing tabs, opening new tabs, and even navigating within tabs, and is quite annoying/disconcerting.

I would expect all changes I make in the app to persist across reopens.

In the video, the tab overview is still open when you force-close the app. Does anything change if you exit out of the tab overview and then force-close the app?

What about if there is more time between closing the tabs and force-closing the app?

Closing the tab overview and then force-closing the app has no effect, the same behavior persists.

Closing the tabs, waiting 10 seconds, then force-closing the app also has no effect.

Doing both of these behaviors (closing tabs, being sure the tab overview is closed, then waiting an additional 10 seconds) also has no effect.

I thought it might be some weird debounce/async thing happening, too, but I can't seem to find any reliable sequence of actions that makes the tabs work like I'd expect anymore.

I can't replicate this. I'm on iOS 18.5, did you see this on that version as well?

I just upgraded to iOS 18.6 a few days ago, and the behavior has been happening for longer than that, so yes I believe it was happening on iOS 18.5 as well.

Additionally, I just tried clearing all history and website data for all time, and disabling all (3) (Firefox) extensions I had active, and the same behavior still persists. Happy to perform any other debugging steps that would help solve this.

could be a sync issue, had zombie tabs a long time ago, had to disable sync for a while

Update: this has continued to affect me over the last several months.

I have completely disabled the “Sync” (to iCloud) feature to no effect.

It happens regularly even when just backgrounding the app - I don’t even have to force-close it anymore. I’ll close a tab in Orion, switch to a different app, switch back to Orion after a while and my closed tab reappears. This happens on a regular basis, several times per day. Would love to see this get prioritized - otherwise Orion has been great!
