Search tab automatically closes after several seconds

When I press "cmd + f" to search for text occurrences, the top search tab opens. However, it closes automatically after several seconds (~ 5-10) and I need to press again 🙁 This started to happen after one of the updates this or last month. Today I eventually got tired of this, haven't found a similar bug report and decided to vent here a little.

I expected the search tab to never close unless closed manually.

On a side note, I like Orion and keep using it despite recently broken autofill that makes navigating work websites a pain now. As a user, I expect less regression bugs because in the last two months their amount was too high. Please don't break fundamental operations 🥺 I guess most users can live without UI sugar like transparent title bars but not having properly working search and autofill really hurts. This is probably the only thing that stops me from paying for the browser -- I am not sure it will ever be stable enough :/

Hey! That behavior does not sound ideal whatsoever. However, I was not able to reproduce it so there seems to be some important detail missing — would you be able to provide more information about the bug.

Alternatively, do the following steps reproduce the bug for you:

Go to https://news.ycombinator.com
Press ⌘+F
type comments (so there are some actual results)
wait 5–10 seconds
the find on page should now close on its own

If there is some other site where you are able to reliably reproduce the issue, feel free to use that. A screen recording of you reproducing this bug would be very helpful 🙂

I am not sure it will ever be stable enough

The team is currently focusing on stability and password manager compatibility as 1.0 release later this year is quickly approaching. In other words, I'd expect the annoyances you have listed to be fixed in the coming months.

Here is a video, the search window autocloses after several seconds. Then I search through term occurrences and it autocloses as well. The timing window is inconsistent and sometimes happens within 5 seconds, sometimes more than 10. It also doesn't matter whether I am typing in the search field or scrolling through the results or simply waiting.
Is this reproducible?

Unfortunately I am not able to reproduce that. Just to confirm, are you able to reproduce this issue on a fresh Orion profile as well (File → Profiles → New Profile...)?
