Cannot directly visit URLs in Orion address bar

When I type a base URL like "kagi.com" into Orion's address bar, the browser automatically performs a search through Kagi Search instead of navigating directly to the website. This occurs specifically for URLs I haven't visited before, where Orion has no prior knowledge of the site.

In contrast, Safari handles this correctly by offering multiple options: direct URL access, search suggestions, bookmarks, and search history.

Once I've scrolled down from the address bar in Orion, I cannot access the globe icon option again. The direct URL navigation option disappears entirely from the selection menu and cannot be retrieved by scrolling back up to the address bar. Furthermore I noticed that the assistant option isn't displayed for all search terms as well.

Orion should provide the option to visit URLs directly, similar to Safari's functionality, and maintain access to the globe/direct navigation option even after scrolling.

laiz You need to visit sites you haven't visited before. For example aps.com

There appearing no globe icon at all is happening in rare circumstances I am unsure how to reproduce.

I was not able to reproduce the issue. Are you able to reproduce this on a fresh profile? Could you share a video of the issue? Am I missing something in the video below?

I see. So the bug is:

type a URL into the search bar/address bar
press down/ctrl+n to go to the first search suggestion, which likely also is the same url you just typed
press up/ctrl+p to go back to the address bar
press enter and a search is performed instead of navigating to the desired URL, this is highlighted by the magnifying glass symbol on the left edge of the address bar

This is why videos are invaluable in figuring out what the bug actually is.

This to be tested on a new profile, do note you can't test it repeatedly with the same domain.

As explained there are three distinct issues:

Globe icon not appearing and direct redirect not working while typing in a base url into the address bar. Instead the user is redirected to the kagi search engine (wikipedia.org)
Typing in a url into the address bar and moving down and up with the arrow keys. The previous option inside the address bar isn't available anymore.
Assistant Option not available for all search queries.
