Currently, Orion only restores the last session for the default profile, which means any tabs in other profiles (ie a work profile) are lost unless manually reopened. This creates friction and risk of data loss for users who separate browsing contexts using multiple profiles — one of Orion’s most powerful features.
The feature would:
• Automatically reopen every profile window that was open when Orion was quit
• Prevent lost tabs from non-default profiles
• Streamline multi-profile workflows (e.g., keeping Music, Personal, and Work sessions intact)
• Align Orion’s session handling with expectations set by Safari and Chrome, which restores all windows regardless of profile
Impact on user experience: It would improve reliability and trust for users who rely on profiles to organize their work. For users who don’t use multiple profiles, there would be no change in behavior.
This feature would make Orion feel more polished and predictable for serious users while preserving the lightweight, clean experience that makes it great.
Many Orion users create separate profiles for different contexts — for example: Personal (email, social, daily browsing), Music (YouTube, plugin shops, DAW resources), and Work (docs, CRM, meetings). When quitting Orion with all of these windows open, the expectation is that all sessions will reopen automatically on the next launch. Currently, only the default profile window is restored, while tabs from other profiles are lost unless manually reopened beforehand. This creates friction, forces users to rebuild sessions, or rely on bookmarks and workspaces as a workaround.
With the proposed feature, quitting Orion with three profile windows open would reopen all three with their respective tabs on relaunch — no extra steps. This would align Orion’s behavior with Safari (which reopens all windows regardless of context), and Chrome/Edge (which remember the session of each profile independently). Apps like VS Code, Figma, and Notion similarly restore all open tabs and workspaces without requiring manual intervention, reinforcing user trust.
This feature builds on Orion’s existing session restore and profile system by extending session persistence to all profiles used in the last session. It would make profiles feel like true, reliable workspaces rather than temporary containers, reducing mental load and eliminating data loss caused by forgetfulness or crashes. Users would be able to move between creative, personal, and professional work more fluidly, trusting that Orion will pick up right where they left off.
