Description
Orion browser version Orion RC 0.99.133.2.1-rc (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2) does not respond to AppleScript commands intended to close all windows or quit the application. Specifically, the commands close every window and quit sent via osascript or Script Editor produce no effect and no error messages. The browser remains open with all windows intact.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Launch Orion RC 0.99.133.2.1-rc on macOS.
- Open multiple browser windows.
- Run the following AppleScript commands separately:
tell application "Orion" to close every window
and
tell application "Orion" to quit
- Observe that neither command closes windows or quits the app.
Actual behavior
Both commands have no effect; Orion windows remain open and the app continues running. No error messages are returned by AppleScript.
Expected behavior
The close every window command should close all open Orion windows without quitting the app. The quit command should close all windows and terminate the Orion application, as is standard behavior in other scriptable browsers like Safari or Chrome.
Additional context
- Orion’s AppleScript support is known to be limited and buggy, especially for window and tab management.
- Previous reports and forum discussions confirm that while some AppleScript commands (like opening new tabs) partially work, commands related to closing windows or quitting are not implemented or fail silently.
- This issue persists in the referenced RC version based on user testing and community feedback.
- This limitation hinders automation workflows relying on AppleScript to control Orion windows.
- No workaround currently exists other than manual window closing or force quitting the app.
