When following a link that creates a new tab, hitting the back arrow closes the new tab, but doesn’t return to the original page. Instead it returns you to whichever tab is immediately to the left of the closed one.
However, viewing all tabs will make it seem like you have gone back to the correct tab. See video.
When a new tab is opened via clicking a link clicking back should close the tab and return you to the original tab.
