CMD + W (Close Window) not working when Start Page is the only window/tab

I have exactly the same behavior as iCSpotRun. Running the same version: Version 0.99.133-beta (WebKit 621.1.2.111.4). This was working as expected in the previous version.

To be clear, my desired outcome here is that with "close window with last tab" turned on, pressing Cmd-W should close the window when it is the last tab, regardless of if the tab is the default tab page or not.

For those looking for a temporary workaround, you can Pin a tab to the tab bar. As long as you have one tab pinned, CMD+W closes the Orion window even when your last non-pinned tab is an empty Start Page.

When I open a new window via Cmd+N, it will present me with the home page.
And if I press Cmd+W i expect it to close (like Safari does).
However, the window just ignores me and remains open.

I would expect the window to close - without quitting the application - like Safari does.

Experiencing this as well on the same version. Seems to only apply to tabs/windows on the Start Page. CMD+W works to close tabs but will no longer close the window if there are no other tabs.

Hey! This is a dupe of #10870.
The good news is that it will be fixed in the release. An RC build with the fix should be live in the next couple of days.

Hi,

I see the bug reported as fixed in the latest release notes.
Just updated to Orion 0.99.134-rc (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2, June 10, 2025) and it looks like Cmd+W still does not close a brand new window with a single tab. However, it is closing the tab if it has a site loaded there.
Please note I have "Close window with the last tab" toggle enabled. Retoggling does not help unfortunately...

Here are the steps to reproduce:

Open Orion
Open few sites
Open a new window wwith Cmd+N
Once a new window is opened, do not open sites
Hit Cmd+W
Expected: a window get closed. Reality: File menu blinks, but an empty window remains active

Hey Yuriy, I tried following your steps but I couldn't reproduce the issue. The issue could be related to you being on Ventura and having an older version of WebKit (619.1.11.111.2 vs. 622.1.9.19.2), making it exclusive to only some versions of macOS. CC @dino
