I’ve read in another post that previews are now disabled in Stage Manager mode. It was thought it was too jarring to be taken away from the source app and into the main Orion stage. I’d dearly like this to be reconsidered. I don’t believe switching to the Orion stage to display a preview is any more jarring than switching to it to open in a tab. And if people don’t like it, they can disable previews anyway.
The main reason I’d like this is because a tab opened from an external link opens in the tab group that was last active. This is a bit random, and ends up cluttering things up if you don’t remember to keep closing the tab. If a preview were opened, this wouldn’t happen, but you still have the option of converting the preview to a tab if you like. As an aside, a dropdown on the preview that lets you select the tab group it’s opened in would be nice too!
I can cite the way Arc does this. Click an external link and a preview is opened in the main Arc stage. If you close it, you are returned to the source app’s stage, which makes for a very nice workflow.
Thank you for your attention.
