Paused YouTube Vid Audio Autoplays When iPhone Self-Locks

…and now I've figured out how to make the objectionable behaviour happen.

Step 1.5: tap the [ ] icon to full-screen the video.

Now either put the phone down and let it auto-lock, or just go ahead and lock the phone. The video play/pause panel comes up on the lock screen, and self-selects Play.

The other part of it I can't figure out how to trigger: full-screen the video, pause it, and then switch to another application—whereupon the vid will resume playing in the background.

Sorry no video; AFAIK screen-recording always stops as soon as the phone locks.

(Oh, and the only way I've found to stop this when it happens is to either close the YouTube tab or quit Orion)

@Yannick I figured out how to capture what looks like another tentacle of the same issue. Look at this what happens when I have a YouTube vid in full screen, pause it, then switch to another app; it self-unpauses:

If the YouTube vid is not in full screen, the problem doesn't seem to happen:

I have checked and confirmed, this auto-unpause behaviour does not occur in Safari, even when the YouTube vid is in full screen mode.

This looks really annoying indeed, sorry for that. Unfortunately I have no luck reproducing this issue and don't really know where to look!
By any chance, could you try and see if disabling bluetooth on your device would have any impact?

Also: same behaviour with dailymotion.com, and with https://live.retrostrange.com/ , which is what we see and hear here:

…and, possibly related: despite retrostrange (in this case) not being the frontmost tab, nor Orion being the frontmost app, I see this on the lock screen:

Just popping up to say this is still happening, despite however many Orion updates (currently 1.3.29/7, WebKit 8621.4.1.10.1) and iOS updates (currently 18.7.1). In fact, it's grown worse – now it sometimes(!) happens even without my full-screening the video. And if I'm watching a video on a non-YouTube page in Orion, such as a vid someone's posted to Mastodon, the vid will resume playing after I've stopped it and set the phone down or gone into another app. Any progress on squashing this annoying insect? @Yannick @jeanetienne

I am now able to reproduce the issue. We'll look at a fix and we'll update this post when we make progress.

The bug happens when the “Allow background audio” setting is on.

Thanks to your help, we finally found a fix for this long standing annoying issue. It should make its way into the next release!
