  • Primary Orion windows become unfocusable/uninteractable after a preview-popover has occurred

  • BugsDesktopPlanned

I've actually had this issue (uninteractable main window) in other situations, but it's been difficult to come up with a reliable reproduction until now.

This, however, reliably triggers it for me:

  1. Open an Orion window
  2. Open another application, and trigger an Orion popover-preview by clicking a link
  3. Close that popover-preview without activating Orion (important) - I think Esc has triggered this bug for me, but in the screencast, I simply click outside the popover-window, on the app I was using before the popover appeared
  4. Attempt to interact with the other, original Orion window in any way

The main Orion window won't take focus when clicking in the viewport (indicated in my screencast by a purple border); and even if I manage to assign OS-focus by clicking in the sidebar beside the traffic-lights, I still cannot interact with the URL bars, or most UI controls.

I am only able to restore functionality through two workarounds:

A. Quitting Orion, or
B. intentionally re-opening a popover from the external application, then closing it with the explicit X icon in the corner, instead of by clicking-out.

I've completely disabled popovers, and this still occurs regularly. I cannot figure out what the trigger is, though, other than that it's reliably reproduced by the preview-popovers.

This is insanely frustrating - if I keep popovers disabled (so that it happens slightly less often) … then the only method I'm left with to use my browser is to completely quit it whenever this happens. That is about every ten minutes or so. Continuously. No matter what I'm doing.

    Oof.
