  • Installing popular extensions (e.g. 1Password) should provide helpful instructions for Orion-specific caveats

  • SuggestionsDesktopPlanned

The specific request here, from my part, is that if the browser had a first-class "here, you should install 1Password! It's well-supported!" button in a special part of its native interface (the "Popular Extensions" window), it should have Just Worked in a predictable fashion.

Instead, there's tons of threads by confused users talking about having to manually log-in to the extension every time they open their browser.

(The fix is simple, you just have to whitelist Orion in the desktop 1Password app.)

Immediately after clicking the install button for any of the most popular extensions, Orion should pop up an instructions/caveats modal with anything the user needs to know about using that extension in Orion (e.g. in this case, telling the user to go whitelist Orion in the desktop 1Password app.)

This is an EXCELLENT idea. I only reequire 2 (would like more but only need 2) extensions to function - my password manager (Dashlane) and my Tab Manager (currently Tablerone, but tbh i'm still looking), and BOTH of them are extremely flakey / don't work properly, forcing me to look at other browsers, some of which I also like a lot (arc, Vivald), but also have the same issue - or aren't compatible at all. It seems to me that anything Orion can do to make extensibility easier and more reliable would go a long way towards increasing their user base?

I agree, and fyi related: https://orionfeedback.org/d/8144-an-overview-of-working-ios-extensions

Extensions are annoying and confusing to use, in general. Not because they are not fully supported yet (which is understandable from a technical perspective), but there is no proper guidance.

Or, as they say in German: “Ohne compass durch die wüste” - “ Navigating the desert without a compass.”.

Good idea. We plan to review the proposed extensions window in the coming weeks as well!
