It would be great to have the option to open the preview window as a stand-alone window. Here’s how the functionality could work:

Opening the Stand-Alone Preview Window
• The user can trigger it using a keyboard shortcut (e.g., Command + Option + N).
• This opens a window similar to the current preview window.
• The new window includes a URL bar where the user can enter any address.

Managing the Stand-Alone Window
• A button (either an icon or an icon with text) in the top-right corner of the window allows the user to:
• Move the stand-alone window into the main Orion window, converting it into a regular tab.
• If the user closes the window, it:
• Will not remain open, but
• Will still appear in the browser history.

Additional Functionality
• The user can also right-click a tab in the main Orion window and choose to:
• Open it as a stand-alone preview window.
• If the user closes this window, the original tab remains available in the main window.

    Thanks for taking the time to detail your idea.
    I'm not persuaded by it. Arc does it, and I hate that, for example.
    However, I think you've already tried Focus Mode? Well, in a next version of Orion, you will be able to directly open a link in a new window in Focus Mode, which should address what you would like to do.

      Yannick i understand you might not like this feature, but maybe others do. i've tried focus mode and don't use it much, but i would for sure use the stand-alone window, as i'm opening new windows to quickly check something out or side-by-side compare something then just closing it.

      opening a window in focus mode via a link is not really the same—unless you are also going to add shortcut combo to also open it.

      hmmm—is the focus mode just the browser window with the tabs hidden? if so in that case i would think that the resources of the window is much more than a stand-alone one.

      anywho—cool feature for some and useless for others. it all depends as you indicated—on if it's useful for the ones that that want to use it.

          You can open a window and toggle focus mode for it, which IMO does more of what arc aims to do, allowing a very barebones window that is opened to a single page.
          And, you can still change the website url, just press cmd-L

            Yup, you're right that Focus Mode (shift + cmd + f) + Cmd-L is cool! The main differences are that it takes an extra step, and the new window just copies the current window's size. So if you're fullscreen, the focused window opens fullscreen too, which isn't what I was aiming for.

            I think it would be really useful to have an option to open a new window that starts in Focus Mode and always opens at a specific, set size (definitely not fullscreen) and location (centered in screen). That way, you get that great focused view you mentioned, but the window size is predictable every time.

              after trying @Yannick suggestion to try the focus mode—i now understand better what he means. yes. it is cool and does what i need, but with the caveat that i mentioned in my last thread—the window size and position thing.

              so now i'm doing "new focus window (cmd + u)" and resizing the window as needed. i use a window tiler for the resizing and moving.

              would still be cool to have the new focus window initially sized and positioned as i mentioned before.

                ah, almost forgot—a global shortcut would be awesome for this feature. so you can spawn a focus window without having to to have an orion window focused/active. you could be working in another app and then use the global shortcut to open a new focus window. awesome!

                if you haven't noticed i'm a total orion fan—it's my daily driver 🙂

                  Cheers! Just one more thing I noticed while using focus mode all week—it doesn't really work as a standalone/throwaway window as I hoped it would have.

                  When I open a new focus window (using Cmd+U), do my thing, and then close it, the system keeps remembering those tabs. So later when I open a regular, non-focus window, I still see all those tabs from my previous focus session(s).

                  Ideally, a standalone/throwaway window should not be like what happens in focus mode. When I close it, those tabs shouldn't show up again in my regular browsing. They should still be in my browser history if I need to find them again, but they shouldn't stick around in the tab collection.

                  It should be temporary—open “new temporary window (cmd + opt + t)“, do your thing, and close it. If you do open a new “normal” window you would not see the tab that you previously opened “temporary window (which looks like the focus mode window)

                  again—thanksI I really appreciate you taking the time to review this topic—I know you all are supper busy making Orion the best it can be and it's a lot of work. I'll just 🤞🏾 my fingers and hope that this feature suggestion gets worked in—but i get it if it doesn't 🙂
