There's so much other stuff colinear with the URL field that even with a rather wide window occupying more than half my 27" display at 1920 × 1080, and even after I used the toolbar editor to remove toolbar elements I don't really need, to click the URL (for example, to select and copy it) I must first widen the window, a nuisance. Otherwise, trying to click the URL is futile, as you can see here:

Ideas to improve/fix this:

• broaden the URL field on mouseover, and—once it's been clicked—keep it that way until the user hits <return> or clicks elsewhere

• Put the extension buttons, located to the right of the URL field, in a dropdown list under a single button

(I suggest these as both-and, not either/or)

Hey, yes, you're right. We are in the process of reviewing our compact tab system.

By the way, which do you prefer?

    1. As it is now: URL always in the same place for all tabs
    2. Like Safari: the tab's URL is directly editable

Yannick I'm having difficulty understanding your question. How are Safari tab URLs directly editable? I opened a window in Safari, opened a bunch of tabs in it (each with a different page loaded) and…I'm not seeing what it sounds like you have in mind.

I'd still (respectfully) advocate for implementation of the two ideas I put forth ↑up there↑. 🤓

Regarding Safari, what I meant was that you can click on the tab and modify the URL in the tab's location (in the compact view).

Regarding your proposal, did you know that you can move absolutely all the interface buttons into the [...] button? As someone who likes clean interfaces, that's what I did.

We're also going to increase the size of the URL editing field 🙂

did you know that you can move absolutely all the interface buttons into the [...] button?

I did not know that! I can't seem to figure out how to do so; will you tell me, please? Nothing I do in Customize Toolbar seems to work for this.

Ah, now I understand what you meant about Safari, so I can answer your original question: I'd favour the URL always being in the same place.

You should be able to drag and drop them into the Overflow Menu area when customizing the toolbar:

Oh, lookit there. Thank you; that's a fine workaround. I look forward to seeing the URL bar revisions as they evolve.
