Some other browsers feature an auto tab grouping feature, I would like to suggest this be implemented within Orion.
While Orion's nested tabs are useful, they don't match the convenience of automatic grouping, especially since tab clutter often stems from various sources rather than a single sequence. This feature would significantly enhance Orion's organization capabilities and user focus.
Auto tab grouping would be invaluable for users who frequently accumulate numerous tabs. For example, a user like myself, might open 10+ tabs within an hour while researching a few different topics. The feature would work as follows:
- User clicks a "Group Tabs" button in the browser toolbar.
- Orion automatically categorizes open tabs based on content similarity or domain.
- Grouped tabs are visually distinct, perhaps color-coded or nested under a folder.
- Users can easily collapse/expand groups to manage screen space.
- A "Close Group" button allows instant closure of all tabs in a finished group.
This extends Orion's existing nested tabs feature by automating the grouping process and allowing bulk actions on groups.
Example:
- User simultaneously researches vacation planning, works on a coding project, and shops for electronics.
- User accumulates 20+ tabs across these diverse topics.
- Clicking "Group Tabs" automatically sorts these into "Travel", "Programming", and "Shopping" groups.
- User can easily switch focus by collapsing irrelevant groups.
- After booking flights, user closes entire "Travel" group with one click.
- User then expands "Programming" group to continue coding work without distraction.
- Later, user reopens "Shopping" group to complete electronics purchase.
This workflow demonstrates how auto-grouping helps manage multiple concurrent tasks, reducing cognitive load and improving focus across varied topics.
